MSW Student Norma Purdom in Husky 100

Norma Purdom, graduating this year with a Master of Social Work from the UW Tacoma Social Work & Criminal Justice Program, has been named to the 2019 Husky 100.

The university-wide honor recognizes graduate and undergraduate students who are making the most of their time at UW.

In an excerpt from her application for the award, Purdom connects her experiences as an immigrant and first-generation student to her passion for empowering others.

“As a Latina immigrant and first-generation student, my passion has always been to empower vulnerable communities. Following my mother’s words ‘Si se Puede’ (‘Yes, You Can’), I took the challenge to pursue higher education. I can proudly say that UW Tacoma embraced me into their campus family and helped me discover my potential. As a Husky 100, I intend to continue to inspire and empower students and be a bridge they can cross that illuminates their path and helps achieve goals and dreams.”

Purdom received her B.A. in Psychology from UW Tacoma in 2017. She came to campus in 2015 as a transfer student from Tacoma Community College.

There are six UW Tacoma students in the 2019 Husky 100, including Katalina Biondi, B.S.
