Call (253) 383-INFO or check the UW Tacoma website www.tacoma.uw.edu to determine whether campus operations have been suspended. If operations have not been suspended, but driving conditions remain problematic, call the contact number or email the instructor using the information provided in this syllabus. If you are still unsure about the status of your class, you may also call the Professional Development Center office number at 253-692-4618 for updated information.

Should the class be canceled for weather or other unavoidable conditions, please turn in any assignment the next time the class meets unless otherwise noted.

UW Tacoma Campus Safety and Security Information

Campus Safety is located in the Dougan Building: Room DOU180.

For your safety, UW Tacoma encourages students, faculty, staff and visitors to use the Safety Escort service. Campus Safety Officers are available to walk with you to your car or other campus destinations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service is free of charge. During busy periods, Campus Security Officers may ask you to meet in a common location to facilitate escorting multiple people. Dial 253-692-4416 to request a Security Escort.

In case of a fire alarm:

Take your valuables, phone and car keys and leave the building. Plan to return to class once the alarm has stopped. Do not return until you have received an all-clear from an official.



In case of an earthquake:

Drop, cover and hold. Once the shaking stops, take your valuables, phone and car keys and leave the building. Do not plan to return for the rest of the day. Do not return to the building until you have received an all-clear from an official

Student Conduct Code

UW Tacoma Professional Development Center students are held accountable to the University of Washington Student Conduct Code and all standards of classroom behavior as outlined below:



Students must respect the rights, privileges and property of other members of the academic community and visitors to the campus, and refrain from any conduct that would interfere with university functions or endanger the health, welfare, or safety of other persons. Admission to the University of Washington carries the expectation that students will conduct themselves as responsible members of the academic community. All students assume responsibility to observe standards of conduct that will contribute to the pursuit of academic goals and to the welfare of the academic community. Students should be familiar with the Student Conduct Code.



An instructor has the authority to exclude a student from any class session in which the student is disorderly or disruptive. [WAC 478-120-020, section (3)(b)]

Plagiarism

A major part of your experience in the class will be reading, synthesizing and using the knowledge and ideas of others. It is the responsibility of the faculty to help you in this process and to be certain you learn to credit the work of others upon which you draw. To plagiarize is to appropriate and to pass off, as one's own ideas, writing or works of another. Plagiarism is no less of a misconduct violation than vandalism or assault. Ignorance of proper documentation procedures is the usual cause of plagiarism. This ignorance does not excuse the act. Students are responsible for learning how and when to document and attribute resources used in preparing a written or oral presentation. Participation and Completion Requirements

In order to receive a completion certificate, earn CEU’s, Contact or Clock Hours, with a grade of Pass, you must complete all coursework, make all required presentations and meet attendance requirements at the 80% level.
