Celebrating Pride Month
Throughout June and into July, we celebrate Pride Month and honor the LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex, ally, asexual plus other identities) members of our community.
We are fortunate that we are located here in Tacoma, a city with a long history of celebrating and uplifting of the LGBTQIA+ community. Likewise, we are fortunate to be a campus of the University of Washington, with access to many resources and activities through which you can learn about and celebrate Pride Month.
Here in Tacoma, the Pride Festival, sponsored by our near-neighbors The Rainbow Center, occurs in July. To our north, PrideFest is over two days, on Capitol Hill June 29, and in Seattle Center June 30.
I will reiterate what I have said many times: our strength as a university community, and as a society, is grounded in our diversity. It is only by embracing the many ways of being human, expressing our identities and loving each other that we can come together and build a campus and a world based on equity, fairness and justice for all.
