Navigating federal policy changes
February 10, 2025
In recent weeks, the university has been working to understand the full impact of the latest federal executive orders on our community and mission. I recognize that these changes bring significant uncertainty and disruption for many of you. Please know that leadership across all three campuses is closely monitoring the situation and remains in regular communication. As more information becomes available, we will share updates with you, including at our campus updates and town halls.
Latest updates:
- The Provost launched a federal policies update page with sections addressing research, international students and scholars, immigration, DEI, and Title IX and gender-affirming care.
- Washington state has joined a multistate lawsuit challenging the freeze on federal grant funding. A temporary restraining order has been entered which orders the federal government to resume funding any paused federal agency grants or other financial aid programs.
- The Office of Research has issued a statement and launched a federal administration updates and guidance page, which will provide ongoing updates and resources as new information emerges.
- The Office of the President shared a statement with the entire university community, reaffirming that our mission and values will guide us through these changing times.
I recognize that this situation is changing quickly and requires careful consideration in response. I appreciate your patience and engagement as we work through these challenges and unknowns together.
