The student body at UW Tacoma includes students from approximately 25 countries. Classrooms that include both domestic and international students provide opportunities for rich learning, deep conversations, and intercultural dialogue.

Because our international students may have been taught in different pedagogical traditions, we are providing a few resources for engaging international students in your classrooms. Keep in mind that the overall majority of our international students transfer to our campus from community colleges; that means they are familiar with U.S. higher education already.

International Student and Scholar Services staff (uwtiss@uw.edu) are always available to consult with faculty who have questions about how best to support international students in their classrooms. We also recommend the following resources:

    UW Seattle CTL offers workshops, consultation and a variety of web resources for teaching international and multilingual students. 

     

  3. Teaching International Students (University of Michigan Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) 

    The CRLT offers a variety of strategies for engaging international students in the classroom, for improving classroom climate, and for promoting academic integrity. Ultimately, many of these strategies benefit all students.
