Honoring all who have served
This week as we honor everyone in our community who have served as members of the U.S, Armed Forces, I wanted to highlight that more than one-fifth of our student population are military affiliated this year -- 21% are veterans, active duty, or spouses and children of those who have served.
That is the highest percentage we've ever had at UW Tacoma. I firmly believe that is because of the great work of our Veteran and Military Resource Center and how everyone on campus has worked to build a community that supports student success at UW Tacoma.
You will see our Student Veteran Organization planting flags along the Prairie Line Trail today to honor all veterans -- a UW Tacoma tradition since 2017. They will be led by alum Mark Glenn ('95, '01), also known as Sergeant Husky, who will be giving away student tickets to the UW Veterans Day football game this Saturday on a first-come, first-served basis.
There are several other events happening on campus for Veterans Appreciation Week, in addition to events in Seattle and Bothell, and I encourage you to get involved. To everyone -- students, alumni, staff, and faculty -- who has served or is serving, thank you for your service and your continued valuable contributions to our community.
