Honoring Patrick Pow’s legacy at UW Tacoma
After 24 years of dedicated service to the UW Tacoma community, Patrick Pow will retire as Vice Chancellor for Information Technology at the beginning of June.
Patrick’s leadership has been instrumental to our institution’s growth, from advancing our technological infrastructure to enhancing our educational environment. His leadership will leave a lasting impact on our campus, and we are deeply grateful for his commitment and hard work.
Beyond his role in IT, Patrick has been a strong advocate for student access, mentorship, and equity, particularly within the AAPI community. Patrick played a key advisory role in helping UW Tacoma secure a $2 million federal AANAPISI grant in 2022, and he currently serves on the Chinese Reconciliation Project Foundation board.
Patrick and his wife, Amy, also established the Asian American Pacific Islander (AA&PI) Impact Endowment at UW Tacoma, which supports scholarships, mentoring, faculty development, civic engagement, intergenerational connections, and social mobility.
We have asked Bill Fritz to take on leadership of the IT team, reporting to Sylvia James, Vice Chancellor for Finance & Administration. Together, they will oversee a smooth transition while we develop a long-term structure for managing campus technology services. We will not be refilling the Vice Chancellor for Information Technology role and are currently developing a new structure to manage campus technology services in the future.
Please join us in thanking Patrick for his extraordinary service, leadership, and vision. We invite you to celebrate his retirement and remarkable legacy on June 3 at 4:30 p.m. at Zeek’s Pizza. Let’s share our warmest appreciation and best wishes for the next chapter.
