Standing in solidarity with Asian and Asian American friends and loved ones

I am writing to share my outrage, grief and sadness at yet another episode of violence that we heard about on March 16, the hateful killing of eight people in the Atlanta area, at least six of whom were Asian or Asian American women. I want to express my condolences to the families and communities impacted by this vile event.

This tragedy comes at a time of a rise in xenophobic violence against Asians and Asian Americans. This violence toward any community or individuals is absolutely and categorically unacceptable. We must denounce this hatred in all its forms. I stand in solidarity with our Asian and Asian American friends and loved ones here on campus and in our community.

In this moment, and in the times ahead, there are things each of us can and must do.
