The Center for Student Involvement offers two storage options for Registered Student Organizations. These include lockers and desk space.
General Guidelines & Criteria
To qualify for storage, a Registered Student Organization must...
- ...be active and in good standing with the University.
- ...show evidence of significant student participation.
- ...have a specific reason for the storage. (i.e. a locker shouldn't be reserved "just in case.")
- ...have a detailed schedule of programs and activities that will justify equipment/items for storage.
- ...articulate how having the storage will fit with the RSO's mission and goals, and positively impact student life at UW Tacoma.
Computer Workstations
The Center for Student Involvement has 36 computer stations funded by Student Technology Fees and available for student use on a first-come first-served basis. Eight desks are left clear for easy drop-in access, and 22 are at desks that double as working space for student employees of the CSI's various programs. Six workstations are available to be reserved for specific Registered Student Organizations' business. The following terms must be kept in mind:
- Reserving a desk entitles the RSO to store club items in the desk drawers and on the top of the desk. The drawers may be secured by a lock and key provided by the CSI, but the CSI does not assume responsibility for any items left on desk surfaces.
- RSOs must allow the computer to remain open for other students' use. If another student is at a desk when an RSO officer arrives, the officer may politely request that the student use another workstation, but must respect the student's right to refuse.
- If another student is at an RSO workstation computer, an officer may insist on accessing stored items at the desk.
- The floor space surrounding the desk must remain clear.
We may request that RSOs share workstations. If this occurs, staff will make every attempt to pair RSOs with a history of collaboration or who plan to use the desk at times with minimal overlap.
Storage Options
We offer two storage option for student organizations, both of which are currently located in the Center for Student Involvement (UWY 107).
Storage Locker
Any RSO can apply for a storage locker in the Center for Student Involvement. The lockers measure at a size of 17"D x 14"W x 16"H and are locked by a key, which is kept at the front desk in the Center for Student Involvement. When members of your RSO need to access the storage, they can obtain the key from the front desk. They will be asked to leave their student ID card, as collateral to ensure the key is returned. Keys cannot be checked out overnight and must be returned by the time the Center for Student Involvement closes each day. If your organization would like to restrict access to the storage to only certain members or officers of your RSO, you can submit a list of names to our office, and we will only check out the storage key to those approved members.
Storage lockers are available during the summer, as well. However, we will require that your organization review the items you have stored prior to the end of the school year and discard anything you do not want to keep. Food or perishable items are never allowed to be stored. The Center for Student Involvement is not liable for any items that become lost or are stolen.
Workstation Storage
This storage option is only available to RSOs who are assigned to a computer workstation. The workstation storage is the drawer/shelf unit that is located at every computer workstation. The drawer is lockable, with the key checked out from the front desk in the Center for Student Involvement.
In the event that two organizations share one workstation, they will also share the storage unit. These RSOs are encouraged to discuss expectations and guidelines for how the shared storage space will be handled. Food or perishable items are never allowed to be stored. The Center for Student Involvement is not liable for any items that become lost or are stolen.
