A PLACE FOR CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING
What we believe in
At the GID Lab we believe in the power of creativity and collaboration to solve complex problems at scale. Our mission to create the conditions for inclusive innovation means that we are campus serving, interdisciplinary, student centered, and community engaged. Our vision is a world of ethical and creative problem solvers. Our faculty and practitioners are international scholars, artists, and designers, bringing in their lived experience, projects, and case studies from around the world to inform and invigorate our curriculum.
The GID Lab is part of the Institute for Innovation and Global Engagement (IIGE). Together, the GID Lab and the IIGE promote the University of Washington's imperative to Be Boundless.
What we do
The GID Lab provides workshops in social impact innovation and design thinking for campus and community. Our team of researchers, facilitators, and practitioners champion the principles of Design Justice and use frameworks of participatory and human centered design.
The GID Lab provides critical support for the Minor in Innovation and Design. The Global Innovation and Design Internship is a unique opportunity for students to work directly with community organizations on projects highly relevant to our global port city. Students who successfully take a project through the entire design cycle with clear benefits and outcomes to the community served, can earn a Digital Badge in Design Thinking.
