CONSIDERING UWT AND OUR PPPA MAJORS?
Whether you are considering UWT as a first-year student or as a transfer student, the information below can help with your decision and smooth your transition to UWT.
Transfer Students
If you are considering transferring to UW Tacoma, and are interested in one of the three majors within the Division of PPPA (Economics & Policy Analysis; Law & Policy; Politics, Philosophy & Economics), you should know that many of each major’s core requirements can be met at your current institution.
Nearly all institutions of higher education will offer the lower division coursework in political science, economics, and math required for one or more of our majors. Many will offer courses in our required philosophy and writing courses as well. Planning accordingly can help you begin to complete these majors even before you step on our campus.
For the community colleges located near UWT, and where many of our students begin their undergraduate careers, we’ve compiled this spreadsheet to show you the courses at these institutions which meet our majors’ core requirements. We recommend you take as many of these courses as you can so that when you arrive at UWT, you are on your way to completing your UWT undergraduate degree requirements.
For more information, especially on other Washington State institutions, you may consult the University of Washington Course Equivalency Guide. You may also contact a UWT advisor to get more information on your specific questions.
First Year Students
If you are new to higher education, the majors within the Division of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs (PPPA) may be a good option for you. In our Law & Policy major you’ll investigate and tackle the challenges facing policy makers and social activists in Tacoma, Washington State, the U.S., and the world. Our Economics & Policy Analysis major is a good choice if you are solutions-oriented, like hands-on projects; and want to gain literacy in the use and interpretation of data. The Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PP&E) major offers an innovative curriculum based on an interdisciplinary approach incorporating theoretical knowledge from different disciplines.
We are proud of the amazing accomplishments of our students. Many have gone on to receive special recognition and scholarships, and post graduation, they pursue a wide array of paths. All of our students have access to high-quality internships that provide valuable professional experience. You can read about some of these interns and their experiences here.
