Response Rates and Results
Strong leadership and coordination by the UW Tacoma Climate & Belonging Working Group shepherded the administration of UW Tacoma’s first campus climate survey in October 2019, conducted as part of the tri-campus UW Climate Survey.
The twenty-member working group conducted more than 15 survey-taking parties, tabling events and campus forums to generate interest and increase participation in the survey.
Dr. James McShay and Dr. Marian Harris, Co-chairs of the Climate & Belonging Working Group were invited to deliver information sessions to the following schools: Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, Education, Urban Studies, Social Work & Criminal Justice and Milgard School of Business.
The exceptional grassroots organizing work of this committee paid off. UW Tacoma had a total of 2,058 responses. Nearly 34 percent of students, faculty, and staff took the survey. UW Tacoma had the highest response rate of all UW campuses that were surveyed.

Current students, faculty and staff can view the results of the survey, which include an executive summary, full report and Q&A session slide decks. A UW NetID is required.
Rankin & Associates hosted to Q&A sessions, on May 27 and June 5, 2020, to present the results of the survey. LInks to video proceedings of these sessions are available on the survey results page.
Implementation Teams
UW Tacoma Chancellor Mark A. Pagano has convened four campus climate implementation teams to review UW Tacoma climate survey findings, gather additional data, and recommend concrete actions designed to improve our campus climate by promoting a more equitable and just working and learning environment.
These teams were formed in September 2020 to develop actions for the following stakeholder groups: undergraduate students, graduate students, staff and faculty.
The implementation teams will present their findings to the Chancellor and the campus community during a Town Hall in early winter quarter.
