How long do I have to complete my master's degree?
The Graduate School allows master degree-seeking students a maximum of 6 years to complete their degree. Most of the MBA students follow our standard degree plan and complete in 7 quarters.
How often will I attend class?
A typical MBA student will enroll in two courses per quarter. These classes will meet on Tuesday or Wednesday nights, (Class 1-6:15-7:45 p.m. and Class 2 - 8:00-9:30 p.m.), plus there will be two required Saturday class sessions, (Class 1- 9:00am-12:30 p.m. and Class 2 -1:00-4:30 p.m.). Each class will have online content between class sessions. Compressed September courses will continue to require 2-4 full days in class and summer quarter electives will meet on weeknights and/or Saturdays.
Are there any online courses?
The Milgard MBA does not offer any 100% online courses. Each course utilizes online tools to some extent. Faculty will be increasing online content in each course. The courses in the Milgard MBA are delivered primarily face to face in an engaging and interactive classroom environment.
I work for the State of Washington. May I use my tuition exemption for the Milgard School of Business MBA Program? Eligible University and State of Washington employees may enroll for and receive a tuition exemption for up to twelve credits in the MBA program, provided they enroll on a space-available basis. Click here for additional details.
The Milgard School of Business MBA Program is a growing program and likely will not be able to offer tuition exemption opportunities as classes may fill with tuition-paying MBAs.
I am a U.S. Military Veteran with Post -/11 G.I. Bill® funding available. Will this cover MBA tuition?
The Milgard School of Business and UW Tacoma honor the service of our men and women in uniform. We appreciate the valuable experience armed forces members bring into the MBA learning environment. In some cases, most or all of the cost may be met with Post-9/11 GI Bill® funding. Since the Milgard MBA program is a part-time graduate program for working professionals, students will not be considered full-time graduate students (with the exception of Autumn quarter, which requires students to enroll in 12 credits). Military-affiliated individuals should contact the Veteran and Military Resource Center to discuss details related to your benefits and eligibility before pursuing this part-time program.
My work often requires that I be out of town for extended periods. May I take a quarter off when needed?
A requirement of the UW Graduate School is that all matriculated graduate students must maintain continuous enrollment (excluding summers) in order to maintain their graduate student status. If you need to take a quarter(s) off consult with the MBA advisor about the On Leave process.
Your MBA Advisor will work closely with you to develop a personal plan that extends beyond two years if you need extra time to complete the MBA degree. It is important to carefully consider the class sequencing when taking a quarter or more off using the On-Leave status.
What is the pre-enrollment math requirement?
All MBA students are required to complete an online quantitative prep and review course MBAmath.com prior to their first quarter of classes. This course is used by MBA programs all over the United States to help students get acquainted or reacquainted with the most common math concepts students see during their program-statistics, economics, accounting, and finance. Once a student is admitted to the MBA program and confirms their intent to enroll, then the MBA program will email them MBAmath.com account information. Students will be required to provide their name and email address to this outside vendor (MBAmath.com) in order to complete the modules.

I completed the Milgard School of Business Essentials of Management Program (EMP). Does completion of this program exempt me from any MBA coursework?
Anyone admitted to the MBA program autumn quarter 2017 or later will not be able to use EMP toward elective credit in the MBA. However, individuals who finish the Milgard Essentials of Management Program in 2021 or thereafter will qualify for an application fee waiver to apply to the MBA Program.
