- Possession and use of UW Tacoma parking permits is governed by WAC Chapter 478-118. Possession and use of Community Partner permits is governed by the policies and rules of the parking facility operator.
- VIRTUAL PERMITS WITH LICENSE PLATE RECOGNITION:
- Parking on the UW Tacoma campus is managed by License Plate Recognition (LPR). For more information, see the privacy notice for License Plate Recognition for Parking Management.
- Unless otherwise noted, parking permits issued by UW Tacoma are now “Virtual Permits”, which use the vehicle license plate as the vehicle’s permit/proof of purchase.
- Parking permits (and the vehicles covered by them) are now managed by the user in the UW Tacoma Parking Portal. The user is responsible for ensuring that the vehicle information entered in the Parking Portal is accurate and up to date. An incorrectly-entered license plate number may result in a citation.
- Parking permits allow for one vehicle to park in the lot specified on the permit. Customers may add a second vehicle to a permit if they choose, but if BOTH vehicles are parked on campus, one of them will need to pay for parking or it may receive a citation.
- PURCHASE:
- Parking permits are only available to students and employees during the time that they are employed and/or actively enrolled at UW Tacoma.
- Users may only have one parking permit at a time.
- Students living in on-campus housing (Court 17) may only purchase a Court 17 Resident parking permit, which must be requested through Office of Housing & Residence Life. Only Court 17 residents are eligible for Resident permits.
- All other parking permits are self-purchased in the online Parking Portal.
- CANCELLATION, REFUNDS & ADJUSTMENTS:
- To cancel a quarterly permit purchased with a credit card, submit a request to transit@uw.edu. Request must be received prior to the end of the second week of the academic quarter to receive a refund. Include your full name, student or employee ID number, and permit number.
- To cancel an employee parking permit paid with payroll deduction, submit a request using the webform on the Transportation Services website. Departing employees must submit this request prior to their last day of work at UW Tacoma. The final payroll deduction will be made during the pay period in which Transportation Services received the request to cancel the permit.
- No refunds will be given for payroll deduction charges unless the charge was erroneous. If you suspect you were subject to a parking deduction in error please contact transit@uw.edu.
- Adjustments for any parking permit deductions missed due to having a non-12-month permanent position or if on a leave of absence will be made from the first available paycheck upon return to work.
- PERMIT USE:
- Permits must be visible whenever parked in the permit lot. For virtual permits, this requires a properly-mounted state issued license plate be visible and mounted outside of the vehicle for LPR. Vehicles that do not have a properly-mounted front license plate must pull in to the parking stall so that the rear plate is visible.
- Permits may only be used in the designated parking lot during the days and hours listed in the permit details.
- Permits allow for one vehicle to be parked in the designated lot at a time.
- Permits do NOT guarantee an open parking stall. There is no overflow parking.
- Parking permits purchased for the Court 17 parking garage do not guarantee the user access to the garage. Garage access is controlled by Campus Safety and Security and is a part of a campus-wide security and access system. Transportation Services does not have the ability to alter building access hours for students or employees. It is the user’s responsibility to verify their access hours prior to purchasing a permit for Court 17.
- Inappropriate use or display of the permit may result in a fine.
- Repeated misuse of a parking permit may result in confiscation or refusal of renewal.
- Any vehicle with an accumulation of four or more unpaid parking citations is subject to vehicle immobilization. After 5 days, if the owner has not contacted Campus Safety or Transportation Services and made payment arrangements, the vehicle may be impounded at owners’ expense.

UW Tacoma parking lots are not to be used for storage of vehicles or trailers. Vehicles parked in the same location for more than one week may be considered abandoned. Trailers and other storage items are not permitted.
