UW Retiree Parking

Who’s eligible for the retiree parking privilege at the UW Tacoma campus?

All fully retired UW retirees and their spouses. This privilege is extended to encourage retirees to visit the campus and participate in social and cultural events as well as voluntary service, including meetings and research.

Spouses: Retirees and their spouses may both use this privilege, but only for one vehicle at a time. If a retiree and their spouse are in two different vehicles, one will need to pay for parking. Surviving spouses retain this privilege, but will need to obtain a UW Retiree Husky Card/UW NetID. Spouses who are active UW employees must pay for work-related parking.

Return to work: Retirees who have returned to work at the UW in a compensated position must pay for work-related parking. Complimentary parking still applies to reemployed retirees if they are on campus for non-work reasons, such as to attend an event.

 

What if I have accessibility concerns?

Disabled parking stalls are located near all major campus buildings. A state-issued disability placard must be displayed to use disability parking spaces in campus lots.

Any of the hourly parking lots (Cragle, Tioga, TPS, Pinkerton North)

 

What areas are off-limits for complimentary UW retiree parking?

  • Disability parking spaces, unless you have a state-issued disability placard.
  • Spaces marked as C1, C2, or C3 permit only, Facility vehicles only, EV only (unless in an EV), other reserved parking spaces.
  • Any permit-only lot (Pinkerton Turnaround, Laborer’s, Court 17, Whitney Lots)

 

How can I use this privilege?

University of Washington Retirees may park on the UW Tacoma campus for free to attend events and stay engaged with the UW Tacoma community, with the following considerations:

  1. Free parking benefit is available to fully retired UW employees and their spouse. Upon rehire, UW Retirees may NOT use free parking benefits to attend meetings and classes that are a part of their paid duties. 
  2. Retirees may park for free in any UW Tacoma hourly-only parking lot, which includes Cragle, Tioga, TPS, and Pinkerton North parking lots any time that hourly parking is allowed. 
  3. Retirees may NOT park in any reserved or permit-only stall, such as C1/C2/C3, Autism Center, Facility stalls, OR in any permit-only lots (Court 17, Whitney, Pinkerton Turnaround, Laborer's lot)
  4. A valid state-issued placard is required to park in any labeled disabled stalls.
