Traffic disruptions on S 21st Street
The City of Tacoma is performing work on sewer system upgrades at S 21st Street and S. C Street starting March 27, 2025 (depending on weather) and is expected to last 6-8 weeks (late May). Transportation Services is working with the City of Tacoma to reduce impacts to campus as much as possible, but significant traffic disruptions are expected.
CAMPUS IMPACTS
- 21st Street will be closed between Pacific and Jefferson Avenues.
- Hourly parking in the Cragle lot and along C St. (between MAT and MLG) will be closed to allow for two-way traffic.
- Access to ADA stalls, C-1 Disability stalls, and Autism Center stalls will be maintained throughout the project. Motorcycle (M-1) parking stalls in the Cragle Lot will also be closed; riders should use the stalls in the Pinkerton Turnaround Lot instead.
- Pedestrian crossing at 21st & C Street will remain closed for the duration of the work. Pedestrians must cross at Jefferson or Pacific Avenues.
- Access to the south end of campus (Harmon, Autism Center, Mail Center and Mattress Factory will be maintained by a crossing at C Street for the first half of the project and at Commerce Street/Dolly Roberson Lane for the second half. These can be accessed by a detour via S. 25th Street. Follow detour signage.
We recommend you avoid this area when possible. For the most up-to-date traffic changes, please refer to posted construction signage, as traffic and pedestrian access may change throughout this project. We will update this page as we receive more information.
If you are expecting any large deliveries that may be impacted by this work, please notify us at transit@uw.edu so that we can coordinate with City staff.
